When the Civil War came, some people buried their valuables. Others locked away the things they couldn't bear to lose. Some entrusted their most important possessions to friends, believing they would return for them.
They didn't always get the chance.
More than 160 years later, those forgotten objects can surface again: coins, letters, family Bibles, and the ordinary remnants of lives interrupted by war.
We call them treasure.
But what if that's the wrong word?
In this episode of Coinspiracy, we follow three imagined stories grounded in the realities of Civil War life and ask a different question: What makes something worth saving when you don't know what tomorrow will bring?
Because sometimes, what survives isn't valuable because of what it was worth.
It's valuable because someone believed the future would come looking for it.
And sometimes, it does.
