For more than a century, the Lost Dutchman Mine has been told as a story about hidden gold buried somewhere in Arizona's Superstition Mountains.
But while researching this episode, I found myself asking a different question.
What if the real beginning of the legend wasn't in the mountains at all?
What if it began in a small house in Phoenix during the final days of an aging German prospector named Jacob Waltz?

This isn't an episode about finding the Lost Dutchman Mine.
It's about discovering how the legend itself was born.
